TOO MUCH
OF A GOOD THING?
CAN ONE have too much of a good thing even for the most ardent enthusiast?
I wrote an article recently of some of the snags. that face a P.C. show organiser especially if he puts on something rather
lavish.
Show organisers are getting worried at poor attendances and financial losses, even at well organised, well advertised and important annual shows. Sometimes the overall number of competitors in the several contests outnumber the audience who have paid to come in.

I feel that the shows are unevenly distributed, some areas. have almost too many, some not enough. But you cannot try and curb ambitious show organiser who is willing to take the financial risk.

I feel that in most areas two important shows a year are sufficient, excluding one or two lesser club contests, but there are no hard-and-fast rules. P.C. popularity switches from one area to another. At one time Leeds was a hotbed of P.C. activity, but for many years it has not held a major P.C. show. Reg Park used to say he had appeared just about everywhere except his home town.
W. Britain was once a very poor area, then thanks to Paul Hawker's efforts it became one of the best and Paul ran many top W. Britain shows with every top star visiting Bristol sometimes twice a year.
For the first time in many years W. Britain will not be represented at the Britain final this year.
Paul will no longer take the financial risk of staging an expensive show. Maybe a change of town is the answer when this happens.
Harold Wrigley, who has run several shows in Manchester and lately lost financially, is trying Liverpool. E. Britain must have enthusiasts, there are many quite big towns but they have had no shows for a couple of years at least. See page 43
